The Banquet is the culmination of the conference.
Good conversation, tasty food, entertainment, awards, and then.....the Prize
Table!
President Lauren Libby WØLD started the evening with a dedication.
The 2005 CSVHFS Conference is dedicated to the memory of Ted Mathewson W4FJ. Ted was
a founding member of the society and instrumental in the early growth of the society. He served as Secretary for 14 years.
The society would not be here today if not for his efforts during the formative years.
Ted recently passed away--just short of his 100th birthday.
Special recognition and a moment of silence were given to recognize
the recent passing of two prominent VHF+ operators: Fred Fish, W5FF and Dave Batcho, N5JHV.

As the delicious meal drew to a close, our
evening entertainment began. First, we were treated to Cowboy Poetry.
Our poet rounded out the experience by giving history and background to
some of the references in the poems. Then a firearms historian displayed
classic pistols from the old days. He told colorful stories bringing history
to life. Our entertainers played the part wearing period dress.
After the entertainment, we proceeded through
awards and finished with the Prize Tables. A fun evening! |

Gerald Handley W5DBY has shared his wisdom and energy
with the society by sustained tenure as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Year after year, the board members appreciated his reasoned approach to
challenges and selected him to lead the board. After more than 15 years, Gerald now
steps aside. President Lauren Libby WØLD appreciated Gerald remaining in
position one additional year. For that, and the sustained years of excellence,
Lauren presented a Certificate of Appreciation from the Society to Gerald Handley W5DBY. A standing ovation ensued. |

This year, the Chambers Award
for Technical Excellence was presented to Gary Lauterbach
AD6FP for his pioneering work on 47 GHz operation.
Gary was also a crucial part of the initial conquest of
successful EME contacts on 47 GHz. Gary intended to be at
the conference but had to cancel at the last moment. For
the 2nd time, the award was presented by cellphone. A formal
presentation was made at Microwave Update 2005. |
