Memories:
1979: Oh, not much memorable about this summer. I was wrapped around the axle about how things were not like they had been in the past. I just didn't get it that the past was gone. I should have either not worked there that summer, or somebody should have given me a good kick in the ass. A fortuitous evening at the Boulder Beer Bar with Mike Berlin had me meet some Canoe Basers and that helped lead to summer's employment for 80-83 at the Northern Wisconsin Canoe Base. Took a lot of solo hikes and paddles to remote parts of the property. I hung out at our old "High Adventure" campsite from 1978 quite a bit. Took 4 or 5 groups to the Porkies for the day. Frequently did the hike into Trap Falls. I remember taking my Honda 125 Motorcycle to camp that summer and storing it in a wall tent in the parking lot. Only used it 2 or 3 times during the summer. Had one nice long ride over to Beaton's Lake.
I recall clearing a lot of old logging trails as the Ordeal taskmaster. Not real practical, but we knew the camp was closing, so no need to embellish fire-rings, etc.
I remember the OA Ceremonial team having some great paint-jobs that year. Fu-man-chu, Cisco, and Clowns. I have a few slides of this. I'll try and get them into JPEG's.
