1978 Staff:

Due to declining numbers of boys attending camp, the Council felt that running Lowden and Northwoods for the entire summer at each would lead to under utilization and a loss of money.  The solution was to run Lowden for 5 weeks and run Northwoods for five weeks with the Lowden staff coming north to finish out the summer at Northwoods.  The High Adventure Staff spent the whole summer at Northwoods and opened up the camp at the same time in June as all previous years.  With just the five staff, High Adventure Canoe trips were launched and supported.  Also, surprisingly many troops came up for Base Camp during this five weeks.

There was intense rivalry between the High Adventure Staff and the Base Camp Staff that 23 years later seems petty and childish.  But there sure were strong feelings that summer.

Memories:

I remember crawling along in the dark on the giant beams in the central area of the lodge trying to be as quiet as possible in order to hang a "Mouse Mobile".  Unfortunately, I (and my co-conspirator) was "discovered".  Still, it was a charming sight in the morning for all staff to view on their way to the morning latrine.  And the other reward was that somebody else had to take the thing down.  (But we still had more mice in "reserve")
