This disk contains songs with specific things for which to listen.  To others, they may be obvious, but to my untrained ear, they were not.

1. Genesis - Carpet Crawl   High guitar line.  This is from "Seconds Out" with Phil Collins singing.  There is an equally good version on "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" with Peter Gabriel singing (and an extra verse on the beginning).  I like how the song slowly builds.

2. Beatles - Two of Us   Duet, Paul's Bass.  From "Let it Be".

3. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here  Lyrics.  Probably about ex-bandmember Syd Barrett, but really the listener can associate it with anyone they want to.

4. Will Ackerman - Rain to River   Screaming violin near the end.

5. Will Ackerman - Night Slip    Just because it's perfect.  That's Michael Hedges on 2nd guitar.

6. David Sylvian - Answered Prayers  Guitar phrasing/swelling drone loops.  That's Bill Nelson on guitar.

7. Kate Bush - Morning Fog    Fretless Bass.  From "Hounds of Love".

8. Felt - Ferdinand Magellan    Beautiful Melody (repeated twice).  Originally the B-side to the obscure EP "Ballad of the Band", this can be found on the obscure CD "Bubblegum Perfume".

9. Talk Talk - Renee'     Good to the last note.  Live at the Hammersmith 1986.

10. Dire Straits - Why Worry    Tasty Jam at the end.  I like how this goes on and on.  The drummer never plays the same pattern twice during the jam.

11. 10,000 Maniacs - About the Weather  Lyrics and phrasing.  From "In My Tribe".  Natalie Merchant has some of the most poetic lyrics I've ever come across.

12. Housemartins - Think for a Minute  Cello in 2nd Half.  In the first half, there is a bass, then in the second half, there is the cello and a bass.  This song is about Apathy.  I like the lyrics as well.

13. Kate Bush - Deeper Understanding  Female Chorus.  This is the Trio Bulgarka on backup vocals.  Kate used them throughout the "Sensual World" LP.

14. Pete Townsend - Hiding Out  Male Chorus.  From "White City".

15. Bjork - Hyperballad  Strings.  This is the Kronos Quartet backing her.

16. Jah Wobble - Visions of You   Sinead's background vocals.  Jah Wobble was Bass player in the ??Dead Kennedy's??.  If I were building this comp today, I probably would leave this track off and replace it with something else.
